The Friends group turned around the euthanasia rate from 90% in 2013 to <3% in 2018. Did you know?

In preparation for our presentation to City Council, we, the Friends of the Holbrook Animal Shelter, learned a lot about ourselves. After compiling years’ worth of stories about our shelter pets, data from our intake & outtake, our volunteered time and rescue-transport mileage, we found we were underestimating our own impact. We surprised ourselves with how much we’ve accomplished with such a small shelter, with only about 10 volunteers, and fewer than 5 people in day-to-day management. It is truly amazing to see what just a few people can do with a little bit of time, and a lot of time & commitment. We feel like we can change the world!

Our live outcome rate has increased year over year, from 95% in 2016, to 96% in 2017, and year-to-date in 2018 we’re at 97%. This is better than a lot of no-kill shelters around the country; we are very proud.
